Today, in Sex Equality, I raised my hand and asked a question regarding the Canadian decision, fulfilling the speaking requirement to pass this course.
I asked about the "multiculturalism" mentioned by Canadian Supreme Court. The question was mainly like this: can a person fight for equality by using "multiculturalism" under US Constitution?
Although I have thought about how to put this question for 1000 times in my brain, when Prof. MacKinnon picked me to speak, my brain went blank immediately!! Then, pretending I still remember what to say, I stammered out the question. Surprisingly, MacKinnon understood what I was saying and started to answer my question! However, as usual, I didn't quite follow what she said...just could catch that under US Constitution, multiculturalism cannot be raised as a ground of fighting for equality.
Actually, multiculturalism is just partial reasoning that the Court relied upon, and it is not MacKinnon's emphasis as to this case. Why I raised my hand, to be frankly, was to fulfill the requirement. Now I can take it easy in class~~~ hahaha
One thing I would like to mention is, when I started to speak, all students (especially those sitting in front of me)turned their heads to see who was speaking. Well, that made pressure, indeed, but, I immediately ignored them, focusing on how to put my inquiry.
An interesting experienc. I still have 2 opportunities to speak in class until each student speaks once. Curious about how it feels like...I would like to use all of my opportunities to speak~
