This is the last day of the course, Sex Equality.

It seems that it was until this week that I started to concentrate on the lecture and to get used to the rhythm of MacKinnon's speaking, and of course, started to understand "a little bit more" about what she is saying. But...now, the course finished. This feeling is strange. It's like, when you decide to focus on something, suddendly that thing just disappears!!

Well...technically speaking, "the thing" does not disappear because I will have other courses in the winter and spring term to practice English listening. But...the "Sex Equality" course finished. The "MacKinnon" thing finished. I am not so adoring her, but trying to figure out her theory and thoughts in class seems to become one of my wishes in this term. Sigh~~I am still unable to catch her theory and sex equality approach at the end of the semester.

One word that she said to us which impressed me most is: "These people need your help." I gradually feel that the only tool that the minority can use to fight for rights for themselves is "law." The ultimate "justice" and "fairness" cannot be achieved until we use "law" to restructure the social institutions, to alter the the stereotypes, and to equip each person with equal opportunities. It may be a dream far away, but unless you take the first step to make it true, it remains a dream.

Sex Equality never ends, nor does other minority. I think it is what being a professor fascinates me most: You can always inspire someone to do the thing that you think is right and worthful. Day after day, year after year, decade after decade, you can make a better world.

Some of the students suggested we write a card and present a gift for MacKinnon. They prepared a card for everyone to sign his / her name. I signed my name on it and also wrote: "Thanks for coming here and teaching us. This is an amazing term. (Sheng-Chi Teng from Taiwan)"

Perhaps, "MacKinnon" is the only name among so many feminists that I still remember after the ITL course, Gender and Law. It is also because of this that I would like to take this course and felt like "worshiping" her. No matter how we become or where we go, SEX EQUALITY NEVER ENDS!!!
